to create wow moments

Today is my first day of work. We had a corporate induction where we were introduced to the company's vision, mission, goals, expectations, code of conduct etc. all the boring stuff. Luckily for the food, otherwise it would have been super boring. I fell asleep in the afternoon due to the after lunch syndrome. Apparently lunch is provided as eating at the outside stalls can be quite pricey and while working, we would be in our uniform. I actually preferred the food prepared for the teabreak as it was more appetising.

I am very excited to start work and hopefully can try out the newest ride. I made a few friends today, most of the people there were either O or A level grads, some still studying in poly, maybe I did not mingle enough to find any uni undergrads. There were also a handful of adults who are working full-time there. There are many different types of positions and different attractions, so I met people who are from other departments.

After work, I went to buy starbucks because it was the last day of the 12 days offer and today had the one-for-one offer. Such a refreshing drink to end the day, I absolutely love my cuppa of peppermint mocha.

phuket day 3

Third and last day in phuket. Instead of the sea, we headed to the forest this time. We drove up north to phang-nga province, which is south of bangkok. Our island safari tour included whitewater rafting, trek to waterfall, fish spa, elephant ride, ATV. For the whitewater rafting, we did level 1&2. The waters were not rapid enough during this time of the year, so the dam was opened to release more water to make the course more exciting. There was a bottleneck along the way as there were too many rafts going down the river at the same time. We experienced sneak attacks from other rafts where the boatman will splash water at us, making us drenched. We then splashed water back at the other rafts. Our guide was quite experienced and he would purposely guide the raft to hit a big rock, then the raft would wobble and spin around. There was a rope in the middle of the raft to hang on for dear life. The 5km course took about 20 minutes to complete and it was freaking fun. A frog jumped onto vicki's hand halfway and she screamed. Then nearing the end, another guide hooked her lifejacket using a paddle and she fell off the dinghy, luckily the water was not too deep and she climbed back in easily. poor vic, always getting bullied.

We had lunch after the whitewater rafting session. Most of the caucasians took spagetti while we asians took rice as it goes better with the food, thus you can see the difference in tastes. We took a trek to a nearby waterfall after lunch. Although the sign read "prohibit jump off waterfall", the guide conveniently covered the whole "prohibit" and encouraged us to jump. It was deep enough and there were not many rocks. vic van wh did while I helped them to take pictures and videos. I was still feeling unwell and did not want to get wet again. vic had the best jump, she did a headdive, too bad I was in a rush and did not manage to record her beautiful stunt.
ook here's the scoreboard:
vic 9/10
wh 7/10 for the shrimp jump
van 6/10 for her don't know what jump

Next, we travelled about one and a half hours by bus to the elephant camp. We saw elephants, monkey show where they carried out stunts to please the audience. I feel for the animals as I believe that they were treated strictly while undergoing training, and I do not think that animals are bought to entertain us such as bowing down, doing slam dunks or riding a ticycle just for human delight. We also sat on top of an elephant and had an elephant ride. I remember the elephant trying to snatch the banana on my hand with his trunk and when he did not get what he wanted, he blew air up my shorts. gross max and its breath was stinky. I finally rewarded it after the ride. Our guide was very kind enough to help the 4 of us take photo together as it was actually not allowed to use our own cameras and the company was selling our photos at 300 baht (~S$12), very expensive.

We were treated to a fish spa after the elephant ride. Many tiny fishes came to nibble at our feet to remove the dead skin. The otheres squealed due to the tickling effect of the fishes biting their feet, but for me there was not much of a feeling at all, and I felt that the sensation was bearable. My feet became super silky smooth after this. For the last activity, we got to ride the All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) across bumpy tracks and muddy pools of waer. It was very fun as each of us had one vehicle and we had full control of it. The girls were bad drivers and crashed into trees, bushes and even laundry along the way.

Our exciting tour came to an end, we washed up, boarded the tour bus which later stopped along the highway where the four of us transferred to a car which sent us to the airport. Bye bye phuket! it was indeed a fun-filled three day holiday

phuket day 2

I woke up on the second day not feeling too well. We bought breakfast from the street food stall, then sat down at our hotel seats while waiting for the tour bus. The thai kway teow and fried rice were delicious and satisfying for breakfast.

The minivan arrived and sent us to the pier where we boarded the "friendship" ferry. This ferry will be our main mode of transport for the day, bringing us to the various islands around phuket. Pardon us if we were laughing at the way our tour guide spoke english with a thai accent, cos it is very cute. First stop: ton sai bay. We transferred to a smaller boat which took us to the pier. We could swim around the beach and we did not know that we can snorkel until much later. We thought we needed to foot a deposit and we did not bring any money down with us, so we just had our own fun swimming with the fishes. The waters were turqoise blue and so clear that we can see when a school of fishes approached from a distance. The beach was very touristy, there were many beach chairs and a man walked up to us to ask for money when we decided to sit on one. In the end we just placed our stuff on the sand, within sight and headed to the beach for a swim.

After one hour, we had to return to the ferry and we had a sumptuous lunch of thai food. We shared the same table as a spanish couple. I eavesdropped on their conversation and could understand most of what they said. The next stop was maya bay where our ferry anchored in the middle of the sea and we jumped off the platform into the deep blue ocean for some snorkelling. This time there were more fishes, more variety and we brought our packet of stale bread to feed the fishes. We lured the fishes by dangling the bread, then the fishes came in shoals and we managed to snap a few pictures with the fishes using the underwater camera. I swam all the way to the beach for a suntan. It was really a private beach because except for the passengers from a speedboat docked at the beach, there was no one else. It really looked like a beach scene from a movie such as lost or hawaii-5-o.

The last stop was phi phi island. We had to pay a 20 baht entrance fee for the maintenance of the island. We managed to do some shopping there within the one hour allocated. I bought a pair of haviannas, most probably fake but then it was cheap. van and vicki bought shades, wh bought a necklace. The island was packed with sunkissed tourists and many dive shops organising dive tours, available in a myriad of european languages. It really had a european feel and I liked the friendly shopkeepers who will attempt to speak to us in mandarin, thinking we are from china. Then my friends will insist on speaking in english to them.

"Friendship" brought us back to phuket harbour where we ended our fun-filled day out at sea. The minivan took us back to our hotel. I was feeling feverish, so I ate some medicine. We had dinner at jeffer's, a western restaurant in a shopping centre, followed by some serious shopping at the night market near the shopping centre. The girls were really good at bargaining and I saw them purchase their wanted items at good prices. I only bought a red bull singlet, because we wanted to be uniform for our activity the next day.

I didn't join them for massage nor the chilling at the pub at night because I was too sick. I rested in the hotel alone, hoping to recover as soon as possible.

phuket day 1

Flight to phuket was supposed to leave at 2040, but due to flight delay we departed at 2115. This is the first time that I took jetstar and experienced a delay; my previous flights with jetstar to taipei, hong kong, bangkok were all fine. Anyway on the flight, I was pondering about what type of airline to take to seoul. On one hand, me and my mum want to save money, so we were considering airasia, but then i was thinking since singapore airlines had promo, why not take it to seoul, it takes fewer hours, no stopover, has inflight entertainment and good food as well.

We arrived at phuket (HKT) don't know what it stands for, at 10pm local time. I was quite pissed with the customs official because he decided to close the counter when it was going to be my turn next and asked me to queue at another lane. what an ass. When we went out of the arrival hall, we were approached by touts offering to take us to our hotel on their taxi for a fixed price. I read online about these and decided to ignore them. However, the others went to the counter and soon we were attracted by the different types of adventure tours that they offered. The person even told us that the taxi fare from the airport to the hotel can even be included in the package.
After much haggling and discussion, we settled on two separate day tours, one was out to sea and the other in the forest. The price that they gave us was quite reasonable, the child price as indicated on the brochure, so it was much cheaper already. After paying for the tours, I had used up 90% of the thai baht that I had brought.

So the taxi sent us to our hotel, Hallo Patong which is located near Patong beach. It is a small hotel, but I chose it because it had one of the better reviews on traveladvisor. The exterior had just been repainted, the room looks new and clean. There were 2 towels folded in the shape of swans laid on the bed. We put down our stuff and then went down to explore the ennvirons and have supper at the same time.
We walked down the stretch of road from our hotel, passing by pubs with live bands and some street food stalls were packing up for the night as it is close to midnight. We had mr kebab for supper as the smell attracted us and we did not want to walk too far. The stall was located opposite a nightclub/bar, although it was a wednesday night, the bar was so empty and only a handful of thai girls were dirty dancing on stage. We walked back to the hotel after supper to retire for the night as we had to get up early the next morning for our tour.

busy max

It has been long since I last blogged. This shows how busy and hectic uni life is, busy with lessons, tutorials, hall life, science club activities, giving tuition. So fast it is approaching week 12! This isn't a good sign because final exams coming up in three week's time.

Although I do not find myself struggling in my course, (because I am studying what I like), but I feel that I have no time for myself. Life has been revolving around school, work and my hall friends. I am so glad to have a close group of friends who stand by my side and encourage me every day. Wonder how am I going to cope without them.

Anyway, tonight is gonna be a good night because I am going to USS Halloween event with my hall friends! Awesome max because it is the last night of the event, and it is my first time celebrating Halloween proper. Hope I would not be scared by those zombies, ghosts or whatever out there. Looking at the photo albums of my friends who have gone, it seems like quite a popular event and even my friend who works there, terie, was raving about it. Thanks to her, we got staff discount and our entry tickets were cheaper. (:

ok I am heading out now to go back to hall to put my stuff first. updates tmr!

Why No One Is Getting Laid

By Ryan O'Connell

It seems really difficult to have sex these days. Why is that? I thought sex was the one thing everyone could agree on. Whether you were a Christian, a hippie, a punk, a prep, or a geek who played World of Warcraft, we would always have common ground with sex. Because sex is great! It makes us feel good, turns us on, and it gives us something to talk about with our friends. So why do we do subscribe to these stupid games that prevent us from getting laid?

In theory, it’s really easy to get someone to have sex with you. Straight girls, in particular, can get laid in a heartbeat. I’ve seen it happen; I’ve seen some of my girlfriends go into a bar and bag a guy in five minutes, and I get chills just watching them. I often wish that I had the courage to do that. Instead, I let my neuroses consistently cockblock me. My brain: 1. My penis: 0. I have a feeling that I’m not the only who suffers from this type of analysis paralysis. I think the general sex mood of my generation is always feeling unsure and doing all of these technological dances “correctly” before you can finally have someone put their stuff in your stuff.

Maybe we’ve become too critical. Maybe Facebook and texting has turned us into a bunch of judgmental jerks who would say no to sex just because someone uses an emoticon or lists Dave Matthews Band under their favorite music. “Ugh, total dealbreaker!” Really? Well, have fun sleeping alone tonight next to your cool Beach House poster. I can see that listing Beach House under your favorite music is really helping you get laid. You know what, I bet the people who listen to Plain White T’s and Orgy have so much more sex because there’s freedom in having bad taste. It’s like when you see two hideous people walking down the street holding hands. Your initial reaction is that of disgust but it’s immediately replaced by envy when you realize you’re the one walking solo to the ice cream shop.

I want there to be a National Honesty Day (sort of like a revamped version of Liar, Liar and without Jim Carrey) where people text each other their true feelings. I’m sure the day will end in rioting and everyone’s phones/computers will be smashed to smithereens but at least our souls will feel cleansed.

In the meantime, I suggest just being a little more real if you want to get laid. Ask someone straight-up, “Are we having sex later because if not, I g2g.” The worst thing that can happen is the person says no and you have a nervous breakdown in the middle of the bar/street/deli, becoming fearful of putting yourself out there ever again! first day of uni

After 7 months of work and play after I came out from the army, it was proper time to start school and hit the books. It has been almost 3 years since I last studied, so I am quite worried on how to cope with uni life. First of all, I am staying in hall which requires commitments, secondly I have a gpa to meet and also I have a part time job teaching tuition. However, I should be more optimistic and as long as I am able to prioritise my time wisely, I can cope.

So for my first day of school, my lecture starts at 12pm. I thought that the LT was at arts, so I left my hall 15 minutes beforehand. To my utmost horror, I found out that the LT was at engineering because many engineers also take sociology and this is the second lecture slot, so I had to wait for the shuttle bus to take me to engin fac. The first one that came along was packed and we could not board. Luckily the second one came within a few minutes. When I reached engin, I was lost because the faculty is so big. I had difficulty finding LT7A, first cutting through the technoedge canteen which was packed during lunchtime. Even the deck at arts fac is not that crowded during lunchtime, there is some space for people to walk unlike at engin. I climbed up many flights of stairs while following the signs. I was at the 6th level when the map showed that the LT is on the first floor. I finally arrived at the lecture 15 minutes late, and it was packed. There were no available seats so I sat on the floor at the back of the LT.

Many people were late as well, I was not the latest. Some people were not supposed to attend this lecture as they were the wed timeslot, but they wanted to sit in and listen, thus taking up the seats of the actual students of this timeslot like me. The lecture was quite boring and only gave us an insight to what is sociology about, the common misconceptions and the assessment format. After the lecture, I caught the shuttle bus to science for my calculus lecture. The math lecturer was really humurous as he introduced two famous people who invented calculus and he combined their two quotes together to form his own take home message. Lesson ended at 330pm and that was the end of my first day.
